Chicago

In the summer of 2021, I was awarded the opportunity to join Theatre Aspen and their apprentice program as one of two sound apprentices. At the beginning of the summer with Theatre Aspen, I helped build the semi-permanent tent that housed the theatre. In the theatre, the thirteen production apprentices, alongside our mentors, installed a full truss system that housed our sound and lighting rig. We also rebuilt the entire stage floor which was exposed to the elements throughout the previous winter.  During assembly, we loaded the sound and video equipment which included running NL8 cables, BNC cables, XLR snakes, and communication lines. The sound system included a proscenium left, center, and right rig, delay monitors, front fills, and stage speakers. The video system included two monitors in the house with the conductor camera, a stage shot for the conductor, and a stage shot, conductor cam, and infrared camera for the stage manager.

As one of two sound apprentices, I had the opportunity to work as the A2 for Chicago. This cast included six AEA actors and seven apprentices, as well as a live pit orchestra. Prior to opening, I built all the ear and head rigs for the microphones, loaded in the pit orchestra, and mic'ed the musicians. Prior to each performance, I stress tested each microphone and cable before handing them over to the actors. As they left their trailers, I fixed the positioning, taped, and corrected cable runs. During the show, I was actively monitoring all microphone feeds from the actors and pit, checking batteries and signal strength.
